Grief is the price we pay for love.
Although we feel pain now for our loss, It is an honour to have these feelings as it means we loved Opa and we’re loved in return.
Opa’s humour is the thing I will remember the most, playing tricks on us grandchildren and being cheeky. I remember joking with him about who out of the two of us should drive us to Karoline’s house and me suggesting it should be him. I also remember him laughing at me when I took his new scooter for a spin up and down the road. And then racing Opa, him in the scooter and me on foot.
Memories I will treasure.

Mein Opa !
Opa war der Einzige meiner Großeltern, den ich persönlich kennengelernt habe. Er hatte ja ein langes Leben!
Ich habe gerne Zeit mit ihm verbracht.
Ich erinnere mich an meine Kindheit, als er die Äpfel schälte und ich bei ihm am Tisch saß und die Schalen immer schnell in den Mund steckte, sobald er sie auf die Seite legte. Er fand das lustig.
Ich hatte Spaß mit ihm.
Du wirst in meinen Gedanken bei mir sein ! Ruhe dich jetzt aus !

My memories of Opa are always of him laughing.
From discovering filters and turning himself into a dragon, to trying to hook people with his walking stick, I remember how much he made me laugh.
One of my favourite memories was how happy it made him when I held his hands in mine to warm them up and how much his cheeky smile was infectious and made everyone else smile too.
